Class Matters | Black Inventors Presentation & Mentoring Event


Class Matters hosted a Black Inventors Presentation and Speed Mentoring workshop at the Bryant Events center in NE OKC on February 17th, 2017. The event had dozens of OKC youth taking part in speed mentoring with table talk conversations, an engineering toolbox activity, and a Black History Month  presentation on black inventors.

Class Matters is a nonprofit that provides science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exposure to socially and economically disadvantaged youth in Oklahoma City. Find out more at

Pack the Stands for NW Classen Basketball | Rally for Schools

Rally for Schools organized a “Pack the Stands” event for the Northwest Classen High School basketball games on February 10th, 2017. The goal was to come support the student athletes during their homecoming games, and show them that their community is behind them.

The evening featured homecoming festivities, giveaways, an announcement of a $100,000 gift to Northwest Classen, and a ceremony honoring the 1959 Northwest Classen football state champs.

Palomar : Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center | Grand Opening & Dedication

On Thursday February 2, 2017, Palomar: Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center was officially launched in a Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony put on by and tThe Oklahoma City Family Justice Center and the City of Oklahoma City.

At the event, city, civic, nonprofit and business leaders celebrated the opening of the collaborative center that will provide services to victims of abuse.

Oklahoma City Family Justice Center is a collaborative model that connects community agencies in one location to serve individuals and families that have been affected by violence, while working to promote the message of resilience and hope. This is a “one stop shop” where victims have access to services and advocacy in one location at no cost them. Bringing the community together to support individuals and families that have been impacted by violence is out goal. (quoted from Palomar’s Facebook page).

Rebuilding Together OKC | “Stone Soup” Community Agency Lunch

Rebuilding Together OKC, Cathy Keating, Fields and Futures, and Heronville Elementary School hosted a community lunch event on Feb 1, 2017. The purpose of the lunch was to recruit nonprofits and social service agencies to take part in the community agency fair at Heronville Elementary on April 8, 2017, as a part of Rebuilding Together’s Rebuilding Day in the community.

Teach for America Oklahoma City | TFA Tuesday Education Workshop in NE OKC


This video highlights one of three Teach For America • Oklahoma City “TFA Tuesday” community workshop events where participants worked to create a collective vision for the hopes they have for education in Central Oklahoma.

The January 31st event at Mt. Triumph Church in NE OKC was a space to gather, collaborate and work, across Teach for America’s network of staff, faculty, families, and community leaders.

Who is My Neighbor? | Community Forum on Immigration


On January 22, 2017, FaithWorks of the Inner City hosted this community event to help people hear, learn, and pray about our current immigration crisis, and specifically how it affects some of the youth in our community. The goal of the event was to establish a concrete biblical response to our immigration issues.

Pack the Stands for NW Classen | Tailgate & Football Game | Rally for Schools

On October 6th, 2016, community members joined together to rally for the Northwest Classen Knights student athletes. Before a home football game, students from all the sports took part in a tailgate party with the community, with the hope of launching relationships between student athletes, coaches, and community partners.

On Septemner 23rd, 2016, ServeOK hosted their first Amazing ServeOK race, which was a fundraiser and awareness event that led participants to various non-profit locations across the greater OKC metro area to earn clues to the next location, and ultimately become more aware of service opportunities in the city.

Emancipatory Education Conference 2016 | Odyssey Leadership Academy

The Emancipatory Education Conference was hosted by Odyssey Leadership Academy. The purpose of this conference was to curate a conversation around the idea of emancipatory education. It was a convening space for dynamic and innovative educational leaders, practitioners, and partners to engage in relational dialogue about the role education should play in emancipating leadership, classrooms, and communities.

oNE OKC 2016 | A Northeast Renaissance

On April 30th, 2016 the inaugural oNE OKC event showcased the vibrant, economically and culturally rich vision of the future Northeast OKC, engaged current and future community residents and organizations, and created positive energy and awareness around the Northeast Renaissance.

This vibrant block party event featured performances, a community mural, a food truck park, pop-up vendors, a kids zone, wellness zone, education zone, and exhibits of Northeast’s past, present, and future.

We had so much fun covering the event, and are looking forward to helping share the story of Northeast OKC’s resurgence.

Rebuilding Day 2016 | Rebuilding Together OKC


Annually, Rebuilding Together OKC hosts a one-day city wide build called “Rebuilding Day.” On Rebuilding Day 2016, 1,500 volunteers from local businesses, churches, corporations, hospitals, etc. joined together to provide free home repairs on 28 different houses for senior citizens living across the Oklahoma City metro.

It was an inspirational event, and we were so happy to be there to help share it! Here are some of the stories we captured that day.

The awards recognize the individuals, organizations, and neighborhoods who go above and beyond to create  great neighborhoods throughout Central Oklahoma.

Parks in Focus & Positive Tomorrows | Arcadia Lake Education & Photography Outing


Parks in Focus introduces middle school youth to the wonders of nature and the joys of outdoor exploration through the medium of a camera’s lens , and Positive Tomorrows is Oklahoma’s only elementary school specifically for homeless children. The two organizations partner to give students from Positive Tomorrows outdoor exploration experiences.

This story focuses on a trip they took to Arcadia Lake Conservation Education Area for fishing and photography.

Odyssey Leadership Academy | Fall Presentations of Learning


Odyssey Leadership Academy is a new school in downtown Oklahoma City. At the end of each 8-week course, they host public Presentations of Learning, where their students can display, perform, and highlight what they learned.

The Fall 2015 course focused on Racial Reconciliation. We put together this short video about OLA’s Presentations of Learning on Racial Reconciliation.

OLA’s mission is to focus on identity formation, virtue development, and the pursuit of compassion and wisdom through constructive mentoring relationships, transformative curriculum, and real-world experiences that help students grapple with what it means to be architects of repair in the world.

Neighbors Night Out 2015 | The Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma

Neighbors Night Out is a city-wide block party. Hosted by Neighborhood Alliance, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma City Fire Department, Waste Management and local Target Stores, thousands of OKC Metro Area citizens show up to celebrate at Neighbors Night Out events in their neighborhoods.

According to the Neighborhood Alliance, neighborhood events can range from something as simple as a porch vigil – encouraging neighbors to sit and socialize on their porch or front yard – to fully-catered affairs with bounce houses and hundreds of attendees. Regardless of size, these events are an opportunity for you, your neighbors and local businesses to forge relationships and build community.

Hearts for Hearing | New Facility Groundbreaking

Hearts for Hearing creates life-changing opportunities for children and adults with hearing loss to listen for a lifetime. They have seen exponential growth over the last few years, and are building a new facility to expand the reach of their life-changing services to all of Oklahoma and beyond.

We went to their groundbreaking event and put together this community story about what they do, and how this new facility will help them expand the reach of their programs.
