Restore OKC | Summer Kid’s Camp 2017

Restore OKC hosted a summer long Kid’s Camp at Thelma Parks Elementary school in Northeast Oklahoma City. The goal of the camps was to give children in the community a safe, structured place to learn, read and develop relationships with caring members of the community.

After the camp, Restore transitioned into facilitating school-year classroom care teams that can continue to support the teachers and students at Thelma Parks.

OK Messages Project | Outdoor Adventure Day 2017

The Oklahoma Messages Project operates a highly effective prevention and literacy program that makes a positive differences in kids’ lives and helps mitigate the damage of incarceration. By using multi-media filming of parents in prison reading books to their children, the Oklahoma Messages Project helps maintain and improve the parent-child relationship, boost literacy, and improve the child’s social, emotional, and educational outcomes.

Each year, Oklahoma Messages Project hosts a special event for children age 3 through 16 who are affected by incarceration. The kids are treated to an action-packed day full of fun, food, and new friends!

At Outdoor Adventure Day , each child receives a t-shirt, along with a new backpack and books for summer reading. They can play in the Moon Bounce, inflatable water slide and on the Zipline, paint in the painting station, and read books to cuddly shelter dogs. They have the opportunity to play sports and outdoor games and have a delicious and nutritious lunch in the great outdoors.

City Center | Community Block Party

City Center was founded in 2016 with the mission to bring relief and restoration to lives in Oklahoma City. This community center offers a host of services to the citizens of Oklahoma City.

One of City Center’s ongoing events are monthly Block Parties that offer the community an opportunity to come and connect with their neighbors and friends.

ONE OKC 2017 | A Northeast Renaissance

ONE OKC is an outdoor event with the mission of representing the fun, culturally rich, economically vibrant, and socially inclusive atmosphere that summarizes the future vision of Northeast Oklahoma City while creating positive energy and awareness around the Renaissance, and engage the youth and young professionals.

In 2017, the second annual ONE OKC event took to NE 23rd street, and was a great day of community fellowship, engagement, connection and information.

Rally 4 Schools | Rally for Northwest Classen School Year Overview

Rally 4 Schools spent the 2016-2017 school year working to build a coalition of nonprofits, churches, businesses and community groups who would join together to rally around the sports teams at Northwest Classen High School.

This year the coalition hosted 3 “Pack the Stands” nights and worked to connect churches, community partners  and businesses as sponsors to coaches and teams and Northwest Classen, and there are even bigger plans for next year.

Rebuilding Together | Rebuilding Day 2017 | Heronville Neighborhood

Rebuilding Together OKC hosted “Rebuilding Day”,  their 25th annual one-day neighborhood build on April 8th, 2017. About 1,000 volunteers from local businesses, churches, corporations, hospitals, and neighborhoods joined together to provide free home repairs on 25 different houses in the Heronville Neighborhood of Southwest OKC.

At the same time as the rebuilds, Heronville Elementary School co-hosted a Community Resource Fair, with 28 agencies offering services to neighbors in the Heronville Community.

The relationships started on this day will continue to grow and develop in the neighborhood as Rebuilding Together plans to stay involved for the next two years.

Open Streets OKC 2017 | Uptown 23rd & Paseo Arts District

Open Streets OKC is a local health and wellness project which promotes active transportation  as a way to achieve healthier residents with closer ties to their community. For the fourth annual Open Streets event , Uptown 23rd & the Paseo Arts District were combined for one large walkable, bike-able community space.

The next Open Streets event will be on October 29th , in Southwest OKC

Marked 2017 | The Spero Project

Marked is an interactive conference put on by The Spero Project that addresses the fact that in our own communities and abroad, women are being marked by statistics of violence, fear and death. Issues such as domestic violence, human trafficking, incarceration and armed conflict affect women everyday. The Marked conference team simply believe that women should never be marked by statistics of fear, death or violence, but should only be marked by love, hope and a future.

Marked invites followers of Christ to journey together in making real and lasting change in issues challenging women around the world.

“Crossing the Bridge” Justice Conference | Stronger Together OKC

Stronger Together OKC hosted their second annual “Crossing the Bridge” Justice conference on March 10-11 at the Northeast Regional Health and Wellness Campus in OKC.

In the midst of growing racial tensions, terrorist threats, and fears, the conference was a step to address relational poverty between ethnic groups, cultures, and social classes, right in our own churches, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods.

Join your friends in the Stronger Together OKC Movement as we bridge the ethnic, social, and class divides with facts, dialogue, and practical solutions among those who desire a better future.

Class Matters | Black Inventors Presentation & Mentoring Event

 

Class Matters hosted a Black Inventors Presentation and Speed Mentoring workshop at the Bryant Events center in NE OKC on February 17th, 2017. The event had dozens of OKC youth taking part in speed mentoring with table talk conversations, an engineering toolbox activity, and a Black History Month  presentation on black inventors.

Class Matters is a nonprofit that provides science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exposure to socially and economically disadvantaged youth in Oklahoma City. Find out more at class-matters.org

Pack the Stands for NW Classen Basketball | Rally for Schools

Rally for Schools organized a “Pack the Stands” event for the Northwest Classen High School basketball games on February 10th, 2017. The goal was to come support the student athletes during their homecoming games, and show them that their community is behind them.

The evening featured homecoming festivities, giveaways, an announcement of a $100,000 gift to Northwest Classen, and a ceremony honoring the 1959 Northwest Classen football state champs.

Palomar : Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center | Grand Opening & Dedication

On Thursday February 2, 2017, Palomar: Oklahoma City’s Family Justice Center was officially launched in a Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony put on by and tThe Oklahoma City Family Justice Center and the City of Oklahoma City.

At the event, city, civic, nonprofit and business leaders celebrated the opening of the collaborative center that will provide services to victims of abuse.

Oklahoma City Family Justice Center is a collaborative model that connects community agencies in one location to serve individuals and families that have been affected by violence, while working to promote the message of resilience and hope. This is a “one stop shop” where victims have access to services and advocacy in one location at no cost them. Bringing the community together to support individuals and families that have been impacted by violence is out goal. (quoted from Palomar’s Facebook page).

Rebuilding Together OKC | “Stone Soup” Community Agency Lunch

Rebuilding Together OKC, Cathy Keating, Fields and Futures, and Heronville Elementary School hosted a community lunch event on Feb 1, 2017. The purpose of the lunch was to recruit nonprofits and social service agencies to take part in the community agency fair at Heronville Elementary on April 8, 2017, as a part of Rebuilding Together’s Rebuilding Day in the community.

Teach for America Oklahoma City | TFA Tuesday Education Workshop in NE OKC

 

This video highlights one of three Teach For America • Oklahoma City “TFA Tuesday” community workshop events where participants worked to create a collective vision for the hopes they have for education in Central Oklahoma.

The January 31st event at Mt. Triumph Church in NE OKC was a space to gather, collaborate and work, across Teach for America’s network of staff, faculty, families, and community leaders.

Who is My Neighbor? | Community Forum on Immigration

 

On January 22, 2017, FaithWorks of the Inner City hosted this community event to help people hear, learn, and pray about our current immigration crisis, and specifically how it affects some of the youth in our community. The goal of the event was to establish a concrete biblical response to our immigration issues.

Pack the Stands for NW Classen | Tailgate & Football Game | Rally for Schools

On October 6th, 2016, community members joined together to rally for the Northwest Classen Knights student athletes. Before a home football game, students from all the sports took part in a tailgate party with the community, with the hope of launching relationships between student athletes, coaches, and community partners.

On Septemner 23rd, 2016, ServeOK hosted their first Amazing ServeOK race, which was a fundraiser and awareness event that led participants to various non-profit locations across the greater OKC metro area to earn clues to the next location, and ultimately become more aware of service opportunities in the city.
